Contrary to staff recommendations, Cllr Mandeep Nagra is putting forward a motion to allow for more liquor stores to open in Surrey without public consultation and expanding into areas that are closer to residential and school zones. The public hearing for this proposal is coming this Monday night, October 21, 2019 and it appears that Cllr’s Patton, Elford, Guerra, and Mayor McCallum will continue to support this motion. This is an unnecessary risk for Surrey that will put the public and those who are the most vulnerable at risk.
Corporate Report brought forward to Council July 22
Recent research in public health clearly shows more liquor retail -> more risk to the public.

The data CLEARLY states what staff has recommended – keep the current bylaws in place and have public consultation.
The question is, why are we changing this and who will benefit?
